Book in a nutshell: Learn about folk and fairy tales from the Maldives

First, when we decided to go to the Maldives in our journey, we looked at picutres of the Maldives. Those were some out of this world pictures. My mom and I would really, really like to go there one day.

We read several of the fairy tales in this book. I will tell you about one that was about coconuts. In the early Maldives, there were no coconuts. The people could not survive without coconuts, because coconut trees provided oil for light and cooking, wood for making things, and food. Many people died. Then a sorceror came along and made a special potion to put on the place where people died. In that place, coconut trees grew. The sorcerer showed people how to use the coconut trees. Then, the people from the Maldives could live and grow.

I learned that the coconut tree is very important to the people of the Maldives. I read another kind of funny fairy tale about a bird that falls out of a tree and has a very bad ending, but I'll let you read that one for yourself.
